Brew City Newbie here
« on: September 13, 2007, 02:43:47 PM »
Hey there,
New to the site, kind of been lurking for the past few weeks and decided it was about time to join and gain some knowledge.  My name is Bob, I'm in Milwaukee WI and just picked up a 1971 CB750 on a trade.  The bike could be a runner with a bit of work, but I also have another bike that I'm in the middle of, so the CB will wait until this winter.  I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it right now, but I've worn down my better half and I can keep it for now.  It has about 25,000 miles and appears to have been ridden regularly until '97, so some maintenance and tuneup work is in order.  Because I haven't gotten too deep in the bike I don't have any questions other than: What areas should I give the most attention to in order verify that the bike will be safe and operate to its fullest potential?  Any suggestions or tips would be great.  Also, if there are any other Milwaukeeans around that could lend a hand or use an extra set of hands, I'm always up to learn more.

Glad I found the site.
Bob

Welcome, glad I found this site too!  :D I joined back in August.
I think in regards to your question about what is most important to look at to ensure a safe, reliable ride would be of course the tires, brakes and suspension components. You also want to make sure all the bolts are tight.  ;) Check out the "tail of a moron thread" lots of loose bolt stories there.
As for reliability, the SOHC fours are very reliable to begin with but you will want to pay attention to the engine for some wear issues. Anyway, I'm sure you'll be back as you get into your winter overhaul with more questions.
 Matt.

Thanks for the warm welcome.  I took another look at the and have determined the first thing I'm going to do is clean my garage.  After that it will be tear down, store/list any parts as they come off, and give it a good cleaning.  I still have another bike that is a priority to get running, but I've already begun thinking about what I want to do.  Anyone replaced their entire wiring harness?  With the way the previous owner tied in all his extra lights I'm not sure I trust the original harness.  Anywhere I should look for one?

Well,
I finally got my pics in the gallery.  I have a question about the header.  Not sure what kind it is, but like it.  Anyone seen one like this before, with the long tube style?  I'll also post this in the proper forum.

Thanks again
