Cleaning The Breather Element?

'75 CB400F here.
According to the manual:
"Wash the breather element in clean solvent"
"Warning: Gasoline or low flash point solvents are highly flammable and must not be used to clean the breather element. Do not use acid, alkali or organic solvent for washing the breather element."
What should I use then?

Well, I haven't taken a look yet at the one that's in there now, so it could be completely trashed for all I know.
If so, where can you get a new one at?

I don't think he's talking about a paper one
Sounds like a reusable foam one.

Hot water and dish detergent may suit your fancy. I finally checked the breather element on my 76 750F and it was pretty rotten and nasty. This happened to be the day before a 600 mile ride, but I had some 1/4" foam with similar pore size that I cut a new one out of. Now I don't smell like the crankcase.
