Rear shock adjustment?
« on: September 13, 2007, 05:53:50 AM »
A thought occurred to me while bouncing through the office parking lot this morning; what's the best way to adjust my rear shocks if I don't have one of those shock adjustment thingies?  I'd like to try out different settings and I don't want to trash them with whatever Neanderthal methods I'd conjour up on my own (step slooooowly away from the vice-grips).

Shock adjustment thingy - 45mm pin wrench pn# 99007-45000 - about $2 from Honda.

Happy trails.

Or a small plumbers strap wrench. No harm to the shock at all.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

So there's no secret widgets, buttons or whatever?  Just spin it & go?  Sounds too easy, there has to be a catch somewhere...

So that's what the 45mm pin wrench is.  I always wondered what the heck you needed a fixed 1-3/4" wrench for on these things.

Thanks guys.

I had considered channel locks, but I was concerned about gouging up the chrome finish with the teeth of the pliers.  I'd hate to mess up my mosaic of rusty chrome, it's taken 32 years to develop it.  ;)

Put a shop rag on the bottom of the shock before gripping it with the pliers.

Having no patience, I opted for:

Boy, that was a tough adjustment.   ;)
