heated grip element installation problems
« on: March 12, 2010, 08:55:25 AM »
i got some heat elements for under my grips i installed the left stationary one no problem.... but the one under the throttle absolutely wont fit under the throttle sleeve i have tried sanding the bars and the inside of the sleeve but its not enough... and to hide the wiring in the bars im trying to find the right spot to drill through i have moved it in toward the center but the clamp (aftermarket) that holds the cable will be clamping it down which i dont think would be a good idea it seems that it might crush the element.......
any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

What kind did you get?

The type I have use a flexible heating element that just wraps around and gets glued on.  On the left side it goes directly on the handlebar under the grip.  On the throttle side it goes on the outside of the throttle tube, under the grip.  I've never seen a style that was meant to go under the throttle tube.  I would think that anything between the throttle tube and the handlebar would interfere with the ability of the throttle tube to move smoothly.

If you have the tube type that are molded to fit 7/8" handlebars then i don't think you'll be able to make it work for the throttle side.  That type is meant for snowmobiles with a thumb throttle that don't have the larger diameter throttle tube on top of the handlebar.

If its like the one I've used (simpex I think) THe element goes around the sleeve under the grip. Not between the sleeve and the handlebar, which would be very dangerous anyway. It could cause the sleeve to hang up.

I could, but it doesn't look any different than without the heating element.  It's just a rubber grip.  The heating element is completely hidden beneath it.

The throttle side wires turn with the throttle pipe/grip. Just leave enough slack to allow this.

Exactly.

I've had mine on for almost four years and there have been no issues with the wires.
