« on: September 15, 2007, 07:15:10 PM »
the rims on my bike are getting pretty warped.i haven't measured the runout.it appears to be to much though.what rims will fit on a 71 500 frame or a 77 550 frame.did comstar make rims for these models?i have checked with a few scrap yards and no one has any spoked rims.so what are my options?

i have looked at a few threads here on the topic.i was tightening the chain the other day.and started spinning the wheel.it is really out of wack.i dont have the gauge to check.but as i said the rims are really warped.how bad is bad?the specks out of the three manuals i have dont allow to much in the way of limits.and i assume im past the limits by eye anyway.

Just bought both new rims for my 75 750F from Service Honda. May be the same as your bike uses (front anyway).
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

If your present rims are still clean, it should be possible to true them up. If you don't feel confident to do them yourself (it's not that hard) there must be a local wheel shop who would look at them.
It took me about 45 minutes to true each of mine when I built in new spokes.
I believe there is an article in the FAQ.

My shipping from Service Honda was $12.00 for 1 order of over 20 items including 1 rim and $17.00 for my other order for more than 30 items including the other rim. I consider that pretty good. None of this expensive EBay "shipping and handling" that attempts to make up for the sale price. Plus, it's new.

As a previous poster said, why aren't you focusing on truing your current wheels?  If your current rims are rusted badly, or somehow damaged then by all means replace them.  If they are "warped" (out of true) as you say then correct this by truing them.  The spokes can apply all the all the force you need to straighten out the rim.  If you install a new rim on your bike it will need to be trued.  If you simply install the spokes and tighten everything up without paying attention, guess what?  Your new rim will be "warped" too.  This doesn't mean that you should return it as damaged goods!  You simply need to adjust spoke tension to get things running straight.

I'm going to try it myself.i was wondering because as i said the manual states that if beyond certain tolerances get a new rim (thats the way i read it anyway).
