Cool.  But the US military has R/C planes that are much larger, my old neighbor flew them from a laptop computer on a Navy ship.

Well, if we are going to be technical.  This qualifies as a remote control plane.     Air Force Global Hawk - pilotless spy plane.



I'm sure the military has probably made larger planes remote control as drones for target practice too.

As I recall (no not from personal experience ) that during WWII, the air force experimented with some RC bombers. The planes were flown normally to the approximate target, the pilots bailed out and the plane, equipped with early, crude TV cameras were then guided by a second plane. The guided plane was fully loaded with explosives with the intention of crashing into the target. I don't think it was highly successful though.

Bob, you're right on there, it was called Operation Aphrodite, using converted B17s and B24s. Take-off was handled by a crew of 2 who bailed out when they got to cruising altitude, control was then taken over by an accompanying plane. It was not a very successful operation and suffered a multitude of failures, one of which was a premature detonation that killed its pilot Joseph P Kennedy (eldest brother to JFK and the family's intended political heir) over some woods that are about a mile from my local motocross track. If it wasn't for that happening, the world could be pretty different today.

Also, BAE are busy converting old Phantoms into drones...must be fun flying those
