1979 cb650 tank on a 1980 cb650
« on: September 14, 2007, 05:15:55 AM »
I am still trying to figure out how easy this would mount up I am back to getting one of these because they go a lot cheaper then the 1980 tanks.

I wanted to do this as the 79 tank is larger.   The rear mount is located farther back on the 79.  Can be done with a little work if really needed.  It would be easier to use a 81/2 tank and put a line adapter in.  Guess my 80 tanks arent good enough.

Juat tried to do this out of curiousity, and it would be possible if you bade a adaptor plate of sorts.
mount the plate to the existing mount hole, plop on the new ('79) tank, and mark where you need your mount hole.
remove plate, drill new mount hole.

However you will have problems with the stock '81 seat pan interfering with the new tank.

Unless you are willing to replace your seat/modify seatpan and re-cover, this is a bad idea....
and the '79 seatpan mounts WAY differently, unless your willing to modify it too.
