72' CB500F Newbie
« on: September 16, 2007, 03:10:12 PM »
Howdy folks,

I am not only new to the forum but also motorcycles in general.
I just recently purchased a 1972 Honda CB500F and I love it!
As with anything thats 35 years old it has ts problems but boy is i fun.
Anyhow, thought I would introduce myself because I am sure I will be asking for pointers.
Oh, btw, I currently reside in Tucson and I was wondering if any of you fine folks are around here.

Ya I was pretty excited about it.... only had 8,000 original miles on it plus the tires and chain are new.
I think the only other upgrade would be the rear light (sleeker looking) and turn signals (small white LEDS mounted to the side of my fender). Actually thats one of the first things I need to fix.
When I turn on my turn signal, both front and rear turn signals just light up, no blink blink blink.
Went to a cycle parts store yesterday and they told me I need a different regulator since the LED's blink faster. Any truth to this?

Thanks,

Different sized bulbs and sometimes just different manufacturers bulbs have different resisitance. Meaning they use more or less power to produce light. I've read that LED lights need a resistor in line with them to make the flasher work. Personally I'd try a heavy duty flasher unit first to see if that works. I'm not an electrician so I have no idea what size resistor to install or where to put it.
BTW I hope that seat is more comfy than it looks.

Thanks for the advice, I think I might just try the bigger flasher unit and see what happens.

As for the seat, its as uncomfortable as it looks :)
When I purchased the motorcycle I actually had to ride it home about 150 miles, talk about a sore butt.
I actually already made a make shift new seat with new foam until I can get my hands on a cafe style seat.

Awesome bike.  I have a 1972 500 that is the same color but has stock handlebars and the stock seat was reupholstered into a king seat (comfortable but ugggggly).  My goal is to have my bike looking somewhat like what yours is already.  Anyway, welcome.  Post a photo of what ever seat you get so that I can steal ideas.
