Burning oil
« on: September 16, 2007, 07:18:12 PM »
My 350F is running great after I got my carbs all set up.  No more carbon fouling.  Tightened up a leaking oil pressure switch and although it looks hideous, I feel pretty good about myself riding around.  But...  I'm blowing smoke out of one of my tailpipes.  Looks more white than anything.  I noticed both of them doing it but one cleared up.  It only does this after I've been riding a while, not at startup.  All the times I had my plugs out due to the carbon fouling, I never noticed any oil on them.  My compression numbers are all 150-165, so I figure my rings are OK.  So what am I looking at?  Valve guides?  Are they still available from Honda?  I figure the motor sat for a while befeor I owned it, is there any point in tryint to "ride it out" at this point?  I have almost 200 miles on it in the last two weeks.

It's strange that it would start after you have been riding it for a while, like the oil is not draining on one side of the head.

I found that if I park my F on its center stand, it does not smoke at all when I start it.

If everything else seems OK, I'd just keep riding it and see what happens.
