is this tank usable or what should i do ---picture

just bought this tank off ebay it is for a cb900 and I am going to try and put it on my 650 a little rusty is this ok or should i do something to it before I put it on and see if it will fit.

Rust on the inside isn't going to interfere with putting it on your bike to see if it will fit.

is it usable the way it is as a runner. what is the best way to take a tank off that has gas in it to see if this will fit as well.

If I were you I would get a small flashlight and take a peek into the tank and look for serious corrosion.  Also I would remove the petcock to see if the filter screen is still there.  If you shake the tank and you can hear stuff rattling around then you don't want to use it without cleaning it.  That junk will get sucked right into your carbs. 

Just turn your petcock to off, disconnect the fuel lines and remove the tank.

There are literally dozens of previous threads on this topic.  Check the FAQ, look in the Tips and Tricks section (second topic from the top), and use the search function.  You'll find more ways to de-rust and clean a gas tank than you'll ever need.
