Topic: Red Bull Air Race... just awesome!

My best friend Mike lives in San Diego.  He is going to this weekend's race.  I wish I could also.  This just looks so awesome, the ability these guys have is amazing.  They are pulling near 10 G's in the high turns!

I think they were the first to use NOS back in the old days for power to pull out of the turns. You understand that when they are in the turn the controls sre eseentially reversed. Amazing pilots.

Yeah the redbull air race is way cool ,a buddie of mine just got back from the Reno air race's ,and has not stopped talking about what a blast it was,unfortunately there where 3 killed at the race this year,first time in 5 or so years.
The weekend of the 29th he and I will be  in Columbus Ohio for the gathering of the mustangs,P-51's not the cars,it is supposed to be the single largest gathering of P-51's in decades,around 140 are supposed to be there,will post pic's of it when I get back.

My brother just called me from one of his construction sites at Brown Field. Said all the planes have been practicing all day. He said they are louder than a Honda 750 with straight pipes!

I so wish I could be there to hear and see them pull 10 G's.  I was reading up on the pilots a bit.  Their bodies undergo forces that would normally cause brain and organ damage, but they are in such good condition that they handle it like riding a bike.

Sometimes they are just feet off the deck flying over 250mph and skidding the plane with the rudders to hit their mark and set up for the next turn.  Any slight over correction and they are fish food.

I was in London on the day of the London event.  Not on purpose, but because my son was moving into a new house in Greenwich which was about 100 yds from the start line!

It was very VERY noisy, there were thousands of tourists clogging up the streets, car parks and pubs and all-in-all a PITA.

Pretty spectacular though...

I've been trying to follow the races on FSN. Very cool and amazing pilots.

At Abu Dhabi the pilots were basically cooking inside the cockpits because they sealed up the vent intake for better aerodynamics.
