He didn't wave back...
« on: September 15, 2007, 09:41:25 AM »
Driving home from work the other day, gave a wave to a passing Harley; full dress w/ a big 'ol Harley dude on it.  He didn't wave back because he was HANGING ON TO HIS DOG!!!!  It was one of those little while puff-ball dogs in a tiny vest & some sort of strap thing sitting in his lap.  Quite the sight, I couldn't stop laughing.

I have no beef w/Harley guys - they usually do the wave.   :D  It's just that this dude COULDN'T because he had one hand on the handlebars and the OTHER ON THE DOG.  I didn't catch if he was wearing his mp3 or not...  ;)

when my oldest siamese was little we lived on a large horsefarm on a long dirt road. on my 68 bonneville i had a piece of carper glued there and hamish would hang on to it while i rode up and down the road at low speeds. he thought it was big fun. rode him on my horses too.

Most of the guys on bikes I pass going the other way usually don't have a dog or cat to hang onto, but when I was out riding the past couple of days and tried a little experiment......no waving.  And the results are since I didn't initiate the "wave", only 2 in 20 would take the initiative.  If I waved first, I'd get maybe 15 in 20 back.  I was following a Harley for maybe 30 miles or so on a country road last week, and he was waving, and getting waves back.  I would wave too but I would get maybe 50% of waves from those same bikers that just passed the Harley  :-\ snobs.

Sadly enough there was a story in the local paper a few days back about a guy who had simply run off the highway, crashed his bike and ended up dead. The story didn't have a lot of facts and in a way didn't make much sense. When the obit was run it mentioned that his dog died in the accident too. That got me wondering if the dog being on the bike led to the accident. I will never understand what makes people think that riding with an animal makes sense. As far as I'm concerned it's just asking for trouble.

I saw a guy last week on a Goldwing with his dog.....in it's own trailer.  The trailer was fully enclosed and even had a little windscreen on it.

We've got a guy down here that I see about once a week with his dog tied onto a flatbed trailer. Big ol' german shepherd with his own goggles, standing right in the middle of it.  ;D ;D

There is a guy who rides an older Silver Wing in our area and every day I see him, his buddy, a little Pomeranian, stands up solidly on the gas tank. The dog is not harnessed and he doesn't hold it. It stands up there all by itself. That turns heads! My wife flipped out the first time she saw it.

When I was in the Isle of Man this summer there was a tourist on what looked like a BMW R1200 with an aluminum box built into the back of it. Contentedly riding rear guard was a dog about the size of a Border Collie.
