Add one more Seattle guy!
« on: September 23, 2007, 09:36:46 AM »
Alright, maybe not Seattle, an hour south in Puyallup/Tacoma. Just picked up my first CB in ten years. A good looking 77 CB400F. Mostly stock, seems like there is a kerker exhaust on her, similar seat but not stock and the fender is a little different. I have the obvious cam chain noise which will likely be the first project I tackle. PO also said the points could probably be checked out. I did some searching while waiting for approval and noticed the oil leaking from the cylinder is somewhat common, but I'll look into a top end rebuild this winter and maybe try to solve that issue as well. Damn thing is pretty cold blooded, so that will be the other thing I try to work out. But it does run and gets around the block.

Either way, just saying hi, here is the only pic I have of her at the moment, but will grab some a little later today. Hoping to spend this winter getting the engine into sound shape and enjoying the road!

Pretty good deal @ $500 and a tank of gas to get down to portland. I'm having some issues with the low end. Seems to sputter a little when it's idling if it will even do that. I'm guessing it has something to do with the kerker exhaust and jetting, but I may be off. Once your on the gas it sounds good, just the low end range is touchy. Here are a few more pics. Gonna get the title transferred over this week and get the learners permit so I'm at least a little legal.

Don't  forget that there is a VME (Vintage Motorcycle Enthusiasts) bike gathering in South Seattle on the first Wednesday of every month (around 6pm-ish) at Planet Georgetown, a bar/restaurant located in... well it's in Georgetown.  You don't have to be a member to show up or anything, in fact they want as many people with vintage bikes to show as possible.  I know I take my 78 cb750 there regularly.

Click on the words Planet Georgetown for directions.

May have to head down there. My bike is having some issues, which I haven't been able to track down, but I haven't done anything either. Pulled the plugs today and the PO had some lovely little champion plugs that look like they had been sandpapered several times. Ugly looking plugs and the funny part is there looks to be a decent set of NGK wires on the bike, no sense to me. Anyways, gonna grab some new plugs, adjust the valves and try and do the cam, haven't read much on it, but it seems easy enough. We'll see how those treat the bike and gonna order up a carb sync tool, just need to find a place to do it and track down a timing light from the neighbor.

Suppose I should start a thread for this bike. Either way, thanks for the hint about meetups, was wondering if there was anything down there. I stopped by smarty pants with a few people the other day(on the job and I didn't have my bike then) and saw another cool looking spot along some street down there, saw some cool bikes in front.

Yep, "The Pants" has bike night every Wednesday night I believe.  Usually the owner will be showing either recently recorded or older motorcycle races on the projection screen tv on the wall.

Although bike night at "The Pants" pales in comparison to the one at Planet Georgetown

But we still love you Tim.  (<--The owner of Smarty Pants.).
