Chain Question

Okay, so my Ducati just got a whole bunch of gifts in the mail, including a new chain and sprockets. Here is where my question comes in. The new chain that I received is set up with a clip-type matser link. The owners manual, the service manual and even my local mechanic (who has dropped the Ducati dealership) says to never use a clip type master link. My question is: Why not?

I mean, I know that, obviously, it is a higher performance bike and that the Clip type M.L. are not as strong as they could be, but why can't I use one? It is a street bike and has never seen a track (and probably never will).

Well I just installed a 630 Tsbuki chain and I had the literally press the plate into place with a small c clamp before I could get the clip on. I do not see how it could fall off. Unless your sprockets are really misaligned there would be very little side force. There are two camps which will weigh in on this, the "Clippers" and the "Riveters". If you do either badly, it will work poorly.
