cb750, removing fork ears, how should i mount my gators?
« on: September 20, 2007, 06:48:38 PM »
So im removing the fork ears from my 73 cb750 and putting on an aftermarket headlight and headlight mounts. For those familiar with the 750, the gators/dust covers are mounted to the bottom of the fork ears. So if im taking those off then how should i mount the gators? Any suggestions? I could use hose clamps and just clamp them down but theyd probably bunch up and it would look like crap.

or i could get dust seals from 77 and up. dont know.

I plan on putting the later style dust shields on my '71. I havent made it that far along yet though.

Get dust caps from an F bike. They are short and just cover the top of the fork and you don't need a clamp. Only problem is they don't protect the whole tube, but fit is there.

If you want to keep the gators - check cyclexchange. Yhey claim they don't need the 'ears'.

"Cycle X Gator boots ( fork boots ): Our gator boots are different because they do not mount to your head light ears like OEM. Our boots mount to your lower sliders and your fork tube. This will eliminate the need for OEM head light ears for a super clean and 60's, 70's look.

I have a pair of the Cycle X gators and they seem to work well.  Not as stiff as the original ones were, but do the trick.  I actually have not got the bike on the road to see the performance of them, but they look sweet in the garage..

Or get somebody to turn up a piece of nylon (Like a big thick washer) for each side and grub screw it to the fork leg
