400f swing arm bushes
« on: January 24, 2008, 02:54:29 PM »
I have to strip out the bushes for the arm to be powder coated, at present it has the nylon bushes with a solid steel tube inside, the tube has no rifling for the grease to travel along or hole in line with the grease nipple this seems odd.
I was hoping to rebuild with bronze bushes does anyone know where these are available from now.

hi again, checked there but couldn't find them listed now. When using these bronze bushes is the arm just bolted straight in with nothing else?

No Mal they replace the original bushes so it's the same set up but they are easier when trying to fit back in….use a G clamp or a sash clamp and one at a time.

Old photo of the ones I fitted is attached

so the bronze bushes replace the nylon bushes, then the steel tube is pressed in, all that is then bolted back into the frame.

The old bushes are not nylon they are made from what I can only describe as compressed horse #$%*! Take the old ones out and you’ll see what I mean.

Just got new bushings in from Honda for my 350f. The old ones were than compressed horse poo material but the new ones are steel. There's a catch though, they're different than the originals in that they don't have a sholder at the end of them like in the picture of dave400's bushings. I went back and checked the online microfiche and it showed that I need an additional washer and bushing to go with the new steel bushing.

So if you go with Honda, make sure you get those three pieces per side to make the "what I assume are upgraded" bushings work.

in view of all the negative feedback about Oldbikebarn I would prefer not to deal with them.

Any other supplier known ?

malcolmgb, I just realized last night what your meant about the grease and the bushings.....
posted in my own project thread about it:
 http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=30467.0

I drilled the shaft out to allow grease to the bushings on mine.

I'm also curious... why bronze bushings?

 Matt.

thanks Matt, Bronze is obviously more durable, although the originals lasted 30 years, they also appear easier to fit and will not collapse like the oem ones.

Kevin sells them here:

Tracy

thanks Tracy, but I already looked there but couldn't see them listed.

You can email him at info@honda4.nl

And most likely David Silver has something as well.
