The picture has seen better days. My Dad's Electra Glide sometime in the early 80's. My little brother on the tank and me on the back. Can you tell I was already hooked?

Thought you all might like THIS photo that I just unloaded that was taken at my Granddad's Motorcycle shop back in the 40's Now remember, you are supposed to be looking at the Indian motorcycle and NOT the pinups!

BTW, those Cokes were a nickel a piece back then and for quite awhile after that actually.

I took this picture of my mom and dad on his '49 HydraGlide when I was 10 years old. Quite awhile back, but I can clearly remember taking the picture and thinking it would be a good one. Unfortunately, someone opened the camera not knowing there was film in it, so it is a little goofed up. In spite of that, it is one of my favorite pictures.

Thanks Jeff, as I get the chance to go through the photo albums, I'm finding some pretty cool stuff. Thing is, I'm also finding some photos that don't have anything to do with motorcycles, that I'd like to post, but not sure if I need to make a thread JUST for those (that others could also add their own) or just do it here? Seems like it would take away from my original purpose for this thread, you know? I'm leaning towards another thread. Opinions?

Still looks good to ME TOO, Greg. After all, in a lot of cases, the photos might be all we've got. So, they ARE special!

When I was young like you were (at that time), I took some pictures, but not many of my Dad's bike and I'm puzzled now, as to why I didn't AND it would have been so cool to have them now. "hindsight", huh. $:-\$

I feel like I need to say that I may not respond to each and everyone who posts here, but rest assured that EACH AND EVERY PHOTO AND/OR STORY THAT IS POSTED HERE is really appreciated and just helps to add to the background of ALL who are members here, of this "Great Big Family ".

I mean, after all, that's what we are!

Thanks, Bill. This is a great idea for a thread with some great pictures. I've had the same thoughts about why there aren't more pictures of the bikes from back then. In our case, the answer is rather ordinary. Film and prcessing were expensive compared to today, so we weren't inclined to crank out a bunch of photos. It's a little different now in the digital age where you can snap away as long as the battery holds up.

You are welcome Greg, I'm also glad that did this AND that someone suggested putting it where it would be noticed AND in hopes of encouraging more folks to USE it as well.

Yeah, I'm sure that it was pretty costly AND bothersome, as compared to today.

Here's a picture from 1939, I believe, showing a group of young folks at Wasaga Beach. My dad and his brother are shown, each second from left and right. My dad would have been 18 at the time. The '37 Ford showing in the background would have been the car that four of the party arrived in. The fellow in the middle is wearing some serious riding gear for the era, and he came on his motorcycle. My dad is wearing a tie, but he still rode on the back of the motorcycle instead of in the car. Wish the motorcycle was also in the picture!

after getting married and leaving as Mr and Mrs. Bill Van Pelt! Happiest Day of
MY life. The SADDEST day was 1 July 09, when she passed away!

Zero bike history in my family until recently, but there is some local history of the '73 350F I now own.

It was purchased new here in Seattle in '73 by the father of my boss. He was a Shriner and his 350F was to be the 9th of 9 350f's the Shriners used as parade bikes until '76. All painted white. Fully dressed with fairing, hard cases and a cb radio. Hard cases busted over the years. the fairing (came with the bike) is now in careful storage. CB is gone but the wiring remains under the seat. the bike had the original bridgestone super sport tires and 9083 gentle miles on it when i trailered it home. I was told by my boss there is one remaining living member from this photo, who had collected and stored a few of these when the PO's passed on. lucky i got this one before he did.

PO is the first on the right with this bike. Photo taken around '74. Cant read it in the photo, but lettering on the front of the fairing says "Smile with Nile".

Pretty cool history there and it doesn't HAVE to be in YOUR family. It's just all about what ever history we can come up with. It good if it's in the family or friends, but doesn't have to be.

Just for old times sake. A pic of my ride at about 19 or early 20s. That would've been 1970 something. I never did have a head for dates. The bike though was a 500 Enfield Silver Bullet. 4 brake shoes up front. A seperate drum on either side of the hub. R/H gear change with a neutral finder. Like a second but much shorter shift lever that you kick down with your heel from any gear and bang, you're in neutral. Check out no seat. The only way I could reach the ground was to sit on a very thin cushion.

Hey nice one Frosty, I had a Go-Kart around the same time with a Royal Enfield 350 engine fitted with an FC Holden carby, (and later an SU off a Mini)

I bought it for 10 bucks off a bloke who lost control at 105 MPH and went off a road (bad understeer) and flew over a farm fence before he came to rest in a muddy paddock. Not that well engineered, but very fast!

I only wish I had never sold it. Got pi$$ed off with a face full of bugs on a winter's night riding from Toowoomba back to Brissie. I was a fly weight in those days, lucky to break 51kg, if I stalled it or it stopped, I'd hafta get off, put it on the centre stand & start kicking. It had a decompression lever; I missed the sweet spot once & my knee hit my chin. Just lucky I didn't have my tongue out!!!

Ha ha, that "kicking back" story reminds me of my old Yamaha XT500 dirt bike, it had a decomp lever and a little indicator on the end of the cam, which was fine in daylight, but at night............. Needless to say, my right leg is slightly shorter than my left, ha ha!
