Hey all,

This thread it totally awesome!  I love all the old stories and pictures!  I work for a group called the Historic Vehicle Association and we are starting a new movement called "This Car/Bike/Van/Truck Matters" where we feature stories just like this on our website [urlhttp://www.historicvehicle.org/][/url].  I did a little post on my Honda SL175 and there is a great post on a CB750!  Here is a video we did to accompany the movement!

Check it out it is on the Rollie Free Vincent!   HVA: This Bike Matters - 1948 Vincent Black Lightning

I have a picture of my pops on his Shovelhead from back in the day I will have to throw up later with a story for you guys!

Thanks,
Casey

This is my father's 1966 Honda 305 Superhawk with my daughter.  That is him in the background.  Photo was taken about 1983.  I still have this bike.

Love the Superhawk!   Is it still in nice shape?

When I turned 18, I drug home a Kawasaki 440 LTD... and a box of parts...  That pissed mom off to high hell and back.

The rides we shared still live on as I ride CASSANDRA, Dad's old 550.  I sold the Kawasaki when I put dad's bike on the road.

Interesting. I pretty much rebuilt my buddy's '81 440LTD two years ago from a pile of parts. I was 18. Last summer he sold her to me dirt cheap when I helped him put together two wrecked '05 Ninja 250's into one good one. The spring before that deal, I bought my '80 CB650... which I, upon seeing her, named her Cassandra. :D How neat-o is that?

BTW: Sorry for the post resurrection; I've been reading over just about every thread in this entire forum in my free time ;D

Yup, Still have it and it looks the same.  Fenders and side covers are now the proper silver.  When I am gone it will go to my daughter.

This was my third bike but the one I rode the most back in the day.
I was a Michigan boy who never swam in the ocean so I packed two weeks worth of clothes in a garbage bag and strapped them on the back of the Sabre and headed for the South Carolina coast. This pic was taken while I was on that trip.

The girl walking in the background I met while on that trip too.
We just celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary.

The Sabre is long gone but I have been recently re-uninted with my first two bikes...the actual ones, a 73 CB 750 and a 78 GS 1000.

Here's a picture from the heady days of my youth.
An old K2 and sidecar heading up to the showers in the camp ground at the Easter Bathurst Bike Races circa, 1981
Unfortunatly the bike, like a couple before it did not survive the trip.  :'(

Cheers,

A couple years ago, Pop brought up a box of old family pix and I finally got to poking through it.

Found a box of slides in there with a couple of surprises... At some point in the mid '70s my uncle had got himself a motorcycle and posed it for some snapshots. It looked to be about a '76 550/4 kinda like mine.

He apparently talked his Granny into sitting on it for a pic, so, here's Mark's Great-Grandma sitting on a Honda 550.

How time flies. Found this pic of my youngest son when he was about 8 years in 1996 on on his first Honda. Not sure of the year of the bike but think it's a mid 7O's mini trail 50.He out grew this bike years ago now being 6'2 and 250 lb. He had several other Honda's through the years and did some moto cross racing also. The last I think was a CR500(now that was one wicked bad a$$ bike) He's more into hunting, taxidermy(does great work) now but still has a place in his heart for old Honda's. I wonder why ::)

Brilliant thread.  I love looking at all the old bikes and reading the stories behind them.

This picture was taken on 17th July 1982 at my older brothers wedding.  The bike was his mates 400/4 and was the reason that I HAD to have one albeit 30 years later!  I absolutely adored that bike, I don't know if it was the gorgeous looking exhaust headers or the sound it made when it took off but I was smitten.  I was 19 at the time and skint so had to make do with my wee TS100.  As time went by and priorities changed the yellow  400/4 was forgotten about and cars and houses bought, marriage, children arrived, etc. etc.

It's only in the last few years (mid-life crisis?) that i've got back into bikes and finally got my yellow 400 in October 2011.  Bit of a heap at the time but she's looking good now.

A wee aside to the wedding story.  This being the first time i'd been a best man I didn't really know what my duties were.  I was told that I had to keep the rings safe, make a speech, and most importantly, look after the bridesmaids.  Well....i've always taken my jobs seriously and i'm still looking after the chief bridesmaid some 32 years later! (27 years married).  It's certainly unusual (and some say illegal) for 2 brothers to marry 2 sisters. ;D
