Don't use paint stripper on side covers!!!
« on: July 14, 2005, 07:52:22 PM »
Damn! the plastic softens, what a mess. My right side cover is wrecked now.  :( I'll have to throw some paint at it and keep my eyes open for another one.
On a happy note, I finally got my seat back yesterday. It looks awesome! The guy didn't do the original pattern (never explained why) but he actually made a nicer (in my opinion) pattern, but the overall shape of the seat looks right. The bike is not original anyways. The original seat was way beyond repairing. The guy's an artist and I only paid $100.
I finally put the first coat of paint on the fuel tank tonight. I'll sand it a bit hopefully tomorrow and put another coat on. I've decided that I'm not going to take the time to aim for perfect as the riding season here is short and I'm dieing to get this machine on the road. I'll fix up the tank all pretty in the fall or next spring maybe. Just got to get the tank back on and (still) a minor wiring issue to straigten up and I'll be able to send it to the shop to get certified (and hopefully the mechanic won't find anything I missed).

Pablo,
Here are pics of the seat. Ithe guy who did it is outside of town here (northern Ontario, Canada) and works out of his garage. He mostly works on boat and snowmobile seats. Anyhow, I was really pleased with the seat but now that it's on the bike, it doesn't fit quite right. I think the front is too long or over stuffed or something. Anyway, I'm just going to get the bike on the road and sometime after I'll get after him ot fix it (better).

RaDigga,
I gouged the side cover with the scraper, it's gonna take a lot of bondo to fix it up.  >:(

Clyde, Live and learn I guess.
