Topic: goggles or glasses?

 So I'm fresh to the pavement and trying to figure out what to wear to cover my eyes. I have a couple pairs of sunglasses I've been wearing and both to protect my eyes, but I'm getting way too much wind in my eyes, which is an issue obviously. What do you guys wear? I did a few quick searches, but didn't find anything good. I'm thinking of keeping with an open face helmet and not really into the drop down face shields either.

you can go with goggles or just do glasses with the protective foam...

I have a half-helmet I wear on warm days.
I wear goggles with it.

I have a 3/4 helmet I wear on cold or rainy days, or long trips.
Has a visor, no glasses or goggles needed.

Goggles generally have a strap to hold them to your head.
Glasses do not. Do not turn your head at 70mph with glasses on. They will blow off.

Shades for short distances and low to moderate speeds (up to maybe 60 or 70 mph).  Visor down for higher speeds, bad weather, lots of bugs, etc.

when i wear them i usually wear an old pair of safety glasses i have. they fit close to the eyes and deflect the wind well..but then again i wear them under a full face lid..i tend to value my jaws situation in a crash..

After a lot of trial and error, I've found sunglasses that are sot of wraparound, with "blinkers" on the sides.  They're prescription.
On cloudy days, goggles (Classic Aviator) over smaller glasses.

I use these because they fit over my glasses.  I love them.  They are comfortable and let in enough air to keep them from fogging but not enough air to irritate the eyes.

I use a full face helmet and wear sunglasses also. I like a bit of wind in my face so I adjust the visor according to speed. Under 40 mph the visor is full open. Over 40 I move it down to just below the glasses. At 50 and above the visor comes down fully. Goggles would make me look like an older coot than I do now.

And those are pretty reasonably priced too...  At only $145 I might just get tow pair.   

If I was to buy a pair of those and a Davida helmet like I want I could have more invested in my helmet and goggles than in my whole bike.   

Seriously...  I like the goggles with the foam rubber stuff.  To me that's the cool thing about riding a motorcycle...  It's the only time besides Halloween that you can dress up like some kind of comic book character and get away with it.

Emgo makes less expensive 2 pane models, I believe.  Check in the Parts Unlimited catalogue.  I'd also try CycleGear and some of the Harley catalogues.

I ride with Victory motorcycle glasses.  They're awesome.

They have swappable lenses; clear, tinted sunglass, and yellow.  They wrap around and have foam to isolate your eyes from the wind.


And they were only $40

I like the Emgo ones, they look like the original WW1 goggles (2 pane) and they're cheap, I think I paid $35US for mine. With some of the goggles your paying $100 more for a fancy mirror lens which may look good riding a spaceship but not a 40 year old bike.

"Dollar Store".   I never pay a lot for sunglasses.  That way they never get lost.  And when they break, oh well...   And for night time use, I use shop safety glasses.  I use a full face with the visor up most of the time, so I always have glasses with me.

I found safety glasses (brand unknown) work great. The one piece kind that wrap around some to keep crap out of the eyes.

Added: VUGUARD SAFETY glasses at Sams club... 10 pair, 20bux... clear and black together...

More or less what I do - just not the "old" part.  I wear safety-rated wrap-around and tinted work glasses.  I go all ZZ Top and get the cheap pair.  When they get sand-blasted and scratched from wear, i just replace them.

Note:  Newest pair is my first pair in a long time that wasn't also mirrored.  I never really realized how much the reflective coating cuts down on glare.

And for night time use, I use shop safety glasses.

For nighttime, I have a pair of the yellow-tint shooting glasses in my saddlebags.  Help as much on the road as they do on the range.  Details pop and headlight flare (something I have trouble with) is reduced.

Aviator style sunglasses during the day, yellow tinted wraparounds (my shooting eyewear) from Academy (about $10) at night. Both work like a charm.

I am tipping the visor down more often now. Twice I have had insects come at me from the side and get under my shades. The last one was a horsefly I think and it bit me right near the tear duct. It was fine all day and when I woke up I was swollen up like Rocky. Several days of serious antibiotics and Bendryl got it down. I am being more careful now.
