Please help ID these con rods...
« on: September 25, 2007, 05:31:25 PM »
MY project K0 came with a spare set of connecting rods. They look like the rods in the engine, but the markings are different. On the connecting bracket they have the markings "52" and then on the other side what looks like a "J." On the shaft of the rods they are marked "S29F." For all I know these are the originals and the con rods in the engine are replacements. Can anyone provide any info? I don't have another set of K0 rods to compare to.

Thanks,

Patrick

Are the rods steel, or aluminum?

It looks like they're steel. Here's a picture. Bear in mind that I haven't cleaned these up yet, so they are not yet pretty. They look solid, though and the bearings with them seem to be in good condition.

The con rods in the bike don't seem bad, at first glance. But I figured as long as I have it apart I might as well use the best available.

Those look all the world like stock rods to me.

Patrick,

If you are considering using better con rods you need rods with much stronger bolts.  The ones in your pic are not any better than stock con rods.

I probably need a closer look at the rods in the bike. I've split the cases, but I haven't pull the rods or the crank yet. The bike had an 810 big bore kit installed, so he might have upgraded the rods at the same time. That would be pretty cool.

He never got it to run.

That would be a bonus, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.  Pics when you get it apart.
