CB500 vs. CB550 enging gasket set
« on: April 08, 2008, 05:04:23 PM »
My bike's engine is from a '74 CB500.  I need a engine gasket set.  I find aftermarket Athena sets for a '71 to '73 CB500, and sets for '74 and on CB550.  I am assuming the gaskets for the '74 CB550 will not fit the CB500.  Thoughts?

Sh*t - it appears I was minsinformed.  There was no '74 CB500 - must be a '73.  Are there any markings on the engine that shed some light.  Prior owner who put in the engine is no longer around.

The serial number should ID it for sure. This page:

has frame and engine serial number ranges.
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.
