new member with cb500 cafe project

Hi,my name is Mike and I live in western NY.Just picked up a cb500 cafe project that I'll be doing over the winter. It's been sitting in a PO's garage for 25+ years, but will only sit in mine for one. It's a former race bike with many vintage go-fast parts that I'll be returning to the street.Has big bore kit,hot cam, prestolite ignition, kerker exhaust, rear sets, steel body cafe seat,Mulholland shocks. It runs(barely),and needs tons of cosmetic and some mechanical work.Already started work on it.I have every thing off it except front tire and the motor. Will post befrore, during, and after pics as progress allows.I also own a 80 gs850 and belong to the gs resources forum. The 850 is my daily rider for the past three seasons.Always looking for riding partners,so if you're in the area and want to cruise like say....Niagara parkway(Robert Moses) or down to Chautauqua lake or any other interesting destination, give me a call.Any help with my cb project would be gratefully appreciated, and of course I would be happy to avail myself with whatever I could with yours.Thanks.

Welcome. Sounds like an interesting find and project. The pics will be of interest to many once you have them. Good luck and keep us posted.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

That spec sounds like it'll be a real bas***d to ride in any sort of traffic!  I have a mate over here who build a Yoshi 500/4 with clip-ons, rear sets, hard seat etc - he said it was like riding a two stroke!  Still, the more 500s that are brought back to life the better as far as I'm concerned. Too many 750s on this site.  ;D

I also have a GS850 funnily enough. It's a big old bugger - handles like it has a hinge in the middle. The Avon Roadrunners probably don't help.  It was featured in Classic & Motorcycle Mechanics magazine this month.
