78 CB550K Ignition Question
« on: April 08, 2005, 06:30:11 AM »
I recently picked up this machine (17K miles).  I checked the point gap and readjusted the setting on the gap.  It was dusk when I finished, and when I started the bike  I noticed spark arciing from various locations on the points as well as in the vicinity of the condensers.  The bike ran smoothly none the less.  Is this normal?  Its been so long that I had a vehicle with points ignition  I can't remember.  I was leaning toward replacing both points and condensers and begin fresh.   Tim

if you have sparks anywere else but at the plugs, its bad... you will get sparks at the tips of the points, but if it is arcing elsewhere, then that power isnt getting to the plugs... you might find that it will idle ok, but when you start to load it up, the plugs could foul... and the bike run really bad.... points and condensers arnt that exi... change 'em and get a fresh start... peace
you are never to old, to act like a kid... be safe
