82-83 cb650 piston swap?
« on: July 15, 2005, 09:41:24 AM »
Anyone know if it's possible to use '83 CB650 pistons on an '82 CB650?  I need replacements for my '82, but haven't found anything but some '83s on Ebay.  And if they can be used, will the bike have to modified in any way?

Thanks

Go to the website www.bikebandit.com, and using the OEM part search look up the piston for each bike.  It will show you a schematic of all the parts, the resolution is poor, but you should be able to see if the brake systems are the same.  As far as I know, the 82-83 650's were the first of the nighthawks, so could have the same brake systems.

1982 was the last year for the single cam engine so I would be supprised if the 1983 piston are the same.  Could be wrong though.

BTW, that makes the 1982 650 Nighthawk somewhat of a milestone Honda--it's the last one with a SOHC4.
I'd rather ride a Yamaha than eat worms.
