A Quiz, But I Don't Know The Answer.
« on: September 25, 2007, 08:29:24 PM »

Okay folks, here we go. Here's a quiz. Only I don't know the answer, I'm hoping one of you do. Here's the deal. I've got this CB400F (not in the best of shape yet, I know) and it had these Comstars on it, when I got it. I know that the CB400Fs didn't come with Comstars, does anyone have a clue what they DID come off of?

GG, Your guess is as good as mine. They fit real well though and look like they belong here. Are there any markings that might help to verify this?

They look like 650 rims. Later as in 81 or 82 650s.

GG & Eldar, I appreciate your efforts to help me figure this out. I just now thought that if I had noted the tire size, that probably would have helped. ::) I'll do that in the morning. I'll probably leave them on there, I would just like to know where they came from, you know?

The only picture I could find with basically an exact match was this 400 twin from Colombia.  All the 650's I could find had the black comstars.

Those wheels with the black cover over the rim joint were only used in 79/80, then Honda switched to the black "reverse" comstars. They are most likely off a 400T or a Superdream (did you have them?).
I take it there are no part numbers stamped on them?

Steve, I haven't looked for any p/n's yet because, honestly, I didn't think about it. I hope to get a chance to check them out closer today or tomorrow. This one has been down at my Dad's for a couple of years and, now that I've got it back, maybe I can get something done with it. As for where I got the wheels from, they were on the 400F when I got it.

I love the guard dog. Nobody is going to mess with those bikes.

That was my little buddy "Kevin". That dog was more like a little man than a dog. He had such a personality that you'd just have to experience to really know what I'm talking about. Anytime I went ANYWHERE in our van, he was always ready to go with me. He'd get up in the front passenger seat and sit there looking out the window like a human would. He really added a lot to all of our lives, when we rescued him from the Little Rock Humane Society back in 93'. Sadly :(, I have to report that we lost him about 4 yrs ago. :'( It affected our whole family and our friends who knew him. I had so much fun with Kevin and he sure seemed to enjoy his life with us too. Thing is, I'm embarrassed :-[ to say that I had never even noticed that he'd gotten into that picture until I was setting it up to save it in my pc. When I realized that he was in the picture and told my wife, everyone came over to the pc to see the picture and I gotta tell you, you can tell by his expression that he was happy. We all miss him but, I REALLY miss his companionship. Thanks for noticing, he thought he was a BIG dog ;) and , in a lot of ways he was.

What's the 500 like behind it?

It needs a lot of work done on it Steve, it's mostly there except for the pipes and the seat cover being toast. The motor has a problem internally, I need to get into that one. I do have another 500 motor that seems to be in pretty good shape, I'm thinking about swapping motors and scrounging up what I'll need to get it in shape too. I'll post some pictures I've got of it later today or tomorrow. I'm trying to get pictures of what I've got (mostly in the way of "Project Bikes" and post them because I've been asked by some, to show what I've got.I can't emphasize enough that most are, what I call, "Project Bikes" and most would probably call them "Parts Bikes" or "Basket Cases". Anyway, I just don't want folks thinking that I'm sitting here with a bunch of Prime Examples of great looking bikes.

Steve (and anyone else who might be interested),

Here are a couple of shots of the old 73' CB500K I have that I hope to fix up some day.

Check out the side cover on this side, it was missing and I got this one off of ebay. ::)

Well, it sure looks like those wheels came off of a 400 alright. Might know that just about the time I was going to go out and check for ANY p/ns on those wheels, it started raining and so I'm going to have to wait on that. At any rate, those wheels are staying on that bike as far as I'm concerned. Thanks for the input guys, I DO appreciate it. ;)

I have three 1978 and 1979 CB400Ts (don't ask, they're like rabbits). They all have Comstars exactly like those. That would be my guess.

PS: I hate them. The parts get loose and can't be fixed.

Well, I wondered when Paul would check it out. You see Paul was after me to post some pictures of my stuff, even though I assured him that most ALL of mine were in sad shape. I'm still using the Wal Mart Disposables for pictures but, at least I've gotten to where I can get them so I can put them on here. When I get pictures of all of them, I'll see about showing them all. Til then.

Paul, no problem, I'm sure we've all done something like that at sometime or another. Sorry about you loosing yours too. Kevin was about 11 - 12yrs old. Figured you'd have something to say about me finally posting some pictures. ::) ;D Now, I just have to get moving on a project and it's kinda starting to look like it might be the Super Hawk and/or an SL350K0 and/or a SL350K2. Hope to get some done on the 77' CB550K "Cafe" also. Suddenly, I'm feeling very tired. ;D
So many that I want to do, and so little time. ::)
