Topic: 34mm clip-ons on a 33mm fork?

34mm clip-ons seem to be plentiful and cheap, unlike the 33mm.  Can i go 1mm up with the 34, and put a something like a coke can in between the two to make up the extra 1mm?  Has anyone tried this?

That really doesn't sound like a good idea to me. You're not going to want your bars potentially sliding around the fork tubes mid corner.

not too sure about the coke can,but if you could make a 1 mm shim out of something a bit more substantial,that might work.

Should work fine if you get the right gauge shimming material.  Aluminum sheet would be ideal.  Coke can is probably not thick enough and using multiple pieces might prove problematic.

the coke can was just a for instance.  A bicycle tube might not be a bad idea, as long as its not too thick.

I did something similar with my headlight mounts...they were 4mm oversize. If you look close you can see them between the headlight mounts and fork tubes. You should be able to find some .5mm shim stock without too much trouble. I'd stay away from rubber though.

You need a 0.5mm shim as its wrapped around fork leg half mm all round is 1mm toal.
 Couple of companies used to make a 'universal' clip on with shims, so I don't see any real problems (covered a 2~ 3mm range) The shim had a flange to prevent it slipping out though, similar to exhaust collet (but thinner, and alloy )
