Headlight help!
« on: September 25, 2007, 05:39:46 PM »
I bought a 1975 750k and have been sorting out the problems. One that is stumping me is the headlight. It works, and is really bright, but doesn't have a low beam. The dimmer switch does nothing, and the hi beam indicator never lights. I have to use manual low beam (pulling my light up and down) and this gets a little hairy on the move. There is a lot of funky "custom wiring" that I have inherited with the bike, but am not sure if that is the problem. I did poke around in the rats nest in the headlight shell and it seems like all the direct connections to the headlight are ok. Any ideas?

Since you inherited a lot of "funky" wiring with the bike, I would suggest getting a wiring diagram and follow it.  Hopefully the colored wire is still the same so you can follow the wiring diagram.  A test light would be of help too.  Good luck with the project.

i had the same problem w/ my bike when i got it. PO had done a bunch of electrical tape wire splicing and other goofy stuff. a clymer manual w/ wiring diagram will be your best friend. as long as the wire colors are the same it shouldnt be hard to fix.

Thanks for the help. I think I need to suck it up and pay for a clymer manual and start investigating. Now I have to repeat the mantra- "electricity is my friend..."

Better choice would be the Honda Shop Manual.  Instead of selected passages/data copied by clymer.
