I didn't get 'the spook' connotation at first and was about to ask where does 'spook' come from, but then I realized... the Phantom.  Duh!

My whole life, the word phantom always meant F4 to me and nothing else.   ;D

Funny, the word Phantom to me has always meant, 'F**k that was loud' :o

Stems from too many holidays as a kid in the Scottish Highlands under where the RAF and Royal Navy used to do their low level hooning, sorry, training 8)

You could always tell which were the F4s, from the big thick cloud of smog they left in their wake ;D
