where does rear brake switch spring attach?
« on: October 03, 2007, 02:48:53 PM »
i have a 78 cb550k & got into a minor accident. The rear brake arm got pushed too far down & towards the back. I loosened the arsm & repositioned it fine & the brake works fine again. Only thing is the little spring which pulls down the brake switch to activate the light is just hanging there & I don't remember where it attached to. I thought there was a little tab with an eyehole welded to the arm but after looking at a bunch brake arms on ebay, they don't have them (at least not 78 model). Anyone can tell me how this works on a 78 model? Any photos or diagrams you can post? Thanks!

Better, but a '75 550K...

On mine, the spring hooks into the bottom of the switch and then onto a hook that is attached to the brake arm.  I don't see that in the parts diagram, but I do see a notch that looks suspiciously like it should hold a spring on part no. 15 that would do the same trick.  Look for the notch and see if that's it.

That's it,csendker. Part 15 in your diagram(the thingamabob lever). Spring doesn't attach to the brake lever at all.

'78 has rear disk, right ???
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame

yeah I was looking for a tab like in your photo above & I couldn't find it so I thought I busted it off. I almost bought a whole new arm. Then I had this nice fellow show me what is in that microfiche diagram - THAT NOTCH! They the setup for the 78 model. All is good now!
