My new CB500 by SteveD CB500Fs

Now I have two so I guess I'll have to change my name...

Bill's thread on his projects started a discussion about cool sidecovers which prompted me to post a picture of the "Silver Machine". Named after the 1980s UK bike magazine that featured it.

I bought it from Frank Cooper ("Old Boy") a while back and have just got it taxed and inspected.

Yamaha wheels (rear is 16")
Motad headers with homemade can (sounds great)
Yamy XS750 headlamp, ears and indicators
Cibie Z-beam headlamp (remember them?)
Homemade electronic ignition
Homemade digital speedo and tach
Homemade keyless security system (don't ask)
Homemade sidepanels
Homemade seat and rear end

It's a '76.

The engine number says it's a K2.

Homemade keyless security system (don't ask)

I have to ask.  Considering the ingenuity of the other things I've seen by him, I really wonder what he came up with.

Congratulations.

OK, since you've asked, it's a black box with a push-button switch. You have to tap in a code (like Morse code) to switch on the ignition. There's no key.

Steve, well done! I've had Frank's website in my bookmarks for some time now... had forgotten about it till now!

A real "special" I reckon - quite impressive and ingenious.
