My 72' CB500F Thread

Ok, do I dont plan on ripping the whole thing apart  at this time but who knows.

My plans are to clean it up, add a few accessories, some new paint, etc.

First thing I started with was the exhaust. Was looking kinda shabby with all that rust and pitting so I figured I would make it black
Took some 80 grit sandpaper and a wire brush and got em looking pretty clean, took some acetone to em, and then used some high heat engine enamel, black.
Still to need throw em in the oven but I have to wait the 7 days to cure. Now I have read and been told that the paint might not stay on the chrome but I figure it was worth a try.

Second thing I am doing is painting the rims since they had some nice rust on em too.
Took some 80 grit to em again to get some nice scratches and get the rust off, wet sanded with 400, tapped em off, more acetone and some self etching primer.
Now I am gunna go sand em and give them a coat of semi-gloss black engine enamel followed up with a clear coat in hopes it might help.

I am planning on putting some knee dents into my tank also and I was thinking white for a color.... anyone have any pictures of a CB thats white?

I'll keep ya posted

There are pictures of a CB500P Police bike on here somewhere.  Run a search.

If you are going for white, I think you'd have to paint the frame as well. Wouldn't it look kinf of strange with white tank / panels and a black frame??

Ya, after I saw those pictures I am have some second thoughts.
On the plus side I got the color coat on my wheel and it sure does look good, cant wait to get the clear coat on.
On a different note, I would like to lower the bike about 2" on both ends. I understand I have a few different choices for the front.
I was wondering if anyone had done the extending the tubes through the triple tree thing and if so, how it turned out (pictures would be awesome)

Thanks,

Denniebob

You can get rear lowering kits (they move the bottom suspension mount back. Run a search.

Lots of people with modern bikes lower the front by raising the fork tubes through the tree (we call them "yolks"). I quickens up the steering so be careful!

Okie dokie,

I got my exhaust baked (talk about smelly), just clear coated my wheels, and now I am thinking about seat/tank modifications.
My problem is that I have one stipulation from my girlfriend.... she wants to be able to ride on the back.
Now I really want a #$%*en single seater but thats out of the question, so I gotta get something we can both fit on.
Keeping in mind that I am pretty slender, can anyone attest to a seat they have bought and put on a CB500 that 2 people can ride on (other than the original ugly seat)

Thanks,

Denniebob
