Well we are here in Elizabethtown, this is the first chance I've had to check the boards.
Thanks for the tips, I'll be checking out some places as soon as time permits.

My dad works on FT knox, he gave me the tour, the Patton museum was cool, a good assortment of death devices.  I took my first ride around today, and got cooled off by the rain, damn its been muggy the last few days.  Let me know if you here of any meets in the Louisville area, in one of your post you made mention of the all the harleys on the road, man you were'nt kidding. I was talking to guy yesterday about the helmet law, he was telling me you don't need a helmet but you must wear eye protection, It's a bit strange to me.
Talk to you later

Eric

Uh, it's always muggy here. Funny, it hasn't rained in a month (and very little all summer) but it's still humid. Thanks for bringing the rain with you, we needed it!  ;)

There is a weekly bike night on Dixie Hwy on Thursdays. It's at Texas Roadhouse just south of I-264. Mostly V-twins but there are usually a lot of crotch-rockets there, especially if the dyno is there.  ::) ;D I have seen a few old jap bikes there too.

I didn't know about the eye-protection law. Interesting.

From what I understand you are also required to wear eye protection in TN as well as a helmet.  A visor counts on a full-face or half, but if you ride around with your visor up with no eye protection they can ticket you.

And it has to be shatterproof.  I wear a pair of $3 shatterproof sunglasses during the day (visor up or down) and the visor down at night.

I don't know why you wouldn't want to wear eye protection down here though.  Not only are there gigantic bugs that like to fly around right at eye-level (cicadas, junebugs, horseflies, etc), Kentucky roads are also notorious for not being well maintained (compared to TN, that is).  There's a lot of road breakup which can result in chunks of asphalt getting slung at you by cagers' tires.  I got a nice knock riding around Murray.  Left a scuff on my visor; I'm glad I was riding with it down!

I think I know where the Texas roadhouse is, do they have a 150 foot tall sign that says"Texas"? I'll try to sneak out there tomorrow and check it out.

I-65N, I-264W, Dixie Dieway S towards Knox. Texas Roadhouse is on the immediate right once you go under 264. Now, if you go N on Dixie Dieway for about ~2 miles just past where it becomes 2 lane, stop at the convenience store on the corner, pick up a six of Bud Light, proceed half way down the next block on your right and tell Bob at Magnum Cycle that Drug Man sent you. He goes home by 6pm usually.

A true Kentucky MC story: My buddy is riding his full boat BMW on the side roads thru Kentucky on his way to the Smokys. The Beemer decides to stop shifting somewhere along the way - no BMW shop for a loooong way but theres a little garage just around the bend. So my buddy pushes the Beemer to the shop and opens the trans case to find a busted shift linkage or some such thing.  He shows it to the mechanic who says sorry can't fix a BMW. So he goes to the local motel for the night and tries to find a new part but everythings closed till Monday. In a little while the phone rings and it's the mechanic, says hey bring that busted part back tomorrow morning I have an idea. A little welding and improvising later and the Beemer is back together and shifting as smooth as can be, that'll be $20 please. That was a year ago and the repaired part is still in there working nicely.

Another true Kentucky story.  Thirty years ago a friend and I were  travelling aimlessly around the US Southeast in a faded brown 1964 StratoChief. We were stopped a set of lights at a bridge over a small river somewhere in rural Kentucky. We waited and waited for a green, all the while other vehicles came up behind us until there were  half a dozen or so.  Still no green, and then finally a woman got out of a car 3 or 4 back, came up to my window and courteously suggested we should drive forward a few feet and trip the sensor ::)  The relaxed and friendly attitude impressed me.
