'72 750K2 cam recomendations
« on: September 28, 2007, 07:28:11 PM »
ok, i have decided on weisco 836 pistons if i need new pistons when i rebuild this winter (i.e. some how i will make sure i need them even if i have to put a .45acp round through one).  i am wondering if someone can recomend a good place to do business with for a good performing street cam.  i may take my precious to the 1/8 mile track by my parents or the 1/4 track at brainard international raceway (hey, its only 60 miles away), but most of its life will be on the street.  i would love to embarss some of local idiots that ride cooter scooters (makes me laugh more than crotch rocket does).

Megacycle and Webcam both have multiple cam profiles for our bikes.  I'm running a Webcam 41a grind cam in my 836.  It is a mild performance cam well suited to the street / 836 motor that does not require stiffer springs.  There are other options for sure.

I really like the Megacycle 125-65 with the 836 kit. You will need springs but it is a good idea to replace them anyway and they are not that expensive

I'm with Mike on the springs. After having floated a valve on a missed 2nd gear shift, breaking the valve off and totally destroying the stock engine I learned my lesson. No, not taking it easier. Bore it, cam it, heavy duty valve springs and continue to flog the #$%* out of it. The heavy duty valve springs have lasted since about 1980 and have seen MANY runs past 10K in that time without a problem. Cheap insurance in my opinion. The heavy duty springs MAKE the valves close at high rpms rather than doing what they want due to the inertia that is created. It just isn't a good thing when the valve stays open too long and kisses the piston due to a weaker stock/old valve spring.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

I have a Webcam 63A grind and I'm happy with the cam.
