Engine paint
« on: September 29, 2007, 06:29:42 pm »
I had the engine parts vapour blasted prior to painting and sprayed them with etch primer, followed by VHT silver spray paint.  I'm not happy with the finish because
a) the silver paint comes off
b) it just doesn't look authentic - it looks like a spray job

Is powder coating the engine a good idea Y/N? or will the silver spray look more original with a few coats of clear laquer?

did you use the vht engine paint? I used the dupli-color 500deg. engine paint on mine after etch prime. it has a ceramic content that helps it stick to the engine after it is baked on.

Which kind or brand of etching primer did you use? Was it also a hi-temp etching primer? Which brand?

Hi Mike,
Used VHT on mine, no primer just very clean engine parts, seems good so far, everything apart from the crankcases was sprayed, allowed to dry ovenight and then cured in the oven.

Cheers

Den

This is the paint I used
