The Good News Tread!
« on: September 30, 2007, 10:37:47 PM »
I've seen so many treads about people's bad luck here, and I'm glad they can get it off their chest and get some support sometimes, but I thought it was time for some balance....

Here's a chance to post what GREAT things you've done or experienced recently. You can brag and boost as much as you like.

Recently did a tune up on my bike, and didn't forget anything!
I usually forget something, and notice it just after i have replaced the tank, and need to remove it to put something back on.

Ahhh.... I guess after you do it a dozen times or so you learn huh?

Oh, and the only other thing worth noting, is I am replacing bits -n- pieces on my '81cb650 finally(O.T. at work kills time for home projects!!) and it's looking like I will have everything installed and ready to be given as a christmas gift to my father in-law.
I'm getting learry of the bottom end knock his '82(?) yamaha maxim is starting to develop.
And how can I not give it to the guy who GAVE me not only my first honda motorcycle, but  a van as well(it's on it's last legs... but it runs, and it was free!).

P.S. I like the thought behind this post!!

A few years ago on a lunch break ,  I came across a box of books in a parking lot. My fellow worker picked them and threw them in the back of my truck. We went to lunch and when we got back to the shop, we looked at the books.  He said” it’s some ones stupid family history”.
I guess he never saw the movie “The Sound of Music”.  I had 32 books of the Von Trappe family history. I could have sold them online and made bunches (as they were not available to the public), but when I read them, the first page stated that they were not to be published or sold online and that they were only meant for the Von Trappe family. Some people told me to cut out the first page and sell them anyhow, but I would not want the same done to me, so I didn’t.
So I tried to email the Von Trappe family lodge, but I never got a response, so I held onto them. A few years later, a neighbor who works with the elderly told me that Agatha Von Trappe (the author of the books) was speaking at her work. I told her about the books I had and gave her my phone number for Agatha to call me.
She called me and she lives in my general area, so I delivered the books in person. It was neat to meet her and talk to her. She gave me one of her published works and signed it for me.

This is one of those gestures that restores faith. Good job there. ;)

Not to make a private matter public, but the "president" of the Chicago chapter of the Ton-Up club has secret agenda for running the club, and I didn't feel that I should be a part of it (long story short)..

Well the bad news is I fell off a porch railing yesterday. The good news is I only mildly sprained my ankles.

I applied battery and gas to my $130 parts bike and it started right up and ran way better than expected. There should have been more crud in carbs that have sat since '94 . The PO was even nice enough to put new OEM points in right before parking it.

Took 2 bikes to a vintage bike show yesterday.  No trophies for me because I was a judge.  We gave Best of Show to a really cool cafe racer Harley in a Norton Featherbed frame.  The owner personally built or modified basically every part on the bike, including the 304 stainless exhaust.

I just finished burying the water pipes from my outdoor boiler to my in-floor heat in the basement. 5 minutes after I finished backfilling the trench it started to rain. We got 1.5 inches in that rainstorm!

He didn't give me her...
I took that one.

Nice find on my part I might add!
Although if it weren't for those bitter cold winter nights in montana, she wouldn't be around...
So i guess I owe her dad, and snow a thanks! And her mom for not having a headache...

Now if I can just convince her to trust my bike.... she's freaked out about my upcoming ride to vegas...

This could  good or bad, depending on your point of view.

We got a new puppy 2 weeks ago.  As soon as I get a picture with a small enough file, I'll post it.

 :o

Actually helped a older couple(in late 50's early 60's?) with their hardley.

They were at a gas station arguing about something as I pulled up.
As I came out, the guy was walking into the maverik grumbling about having to tow it, and lousy new bike problems.

I offered to take a look, and he gave me this look of "what do you know you freak".

I walked over to the lady and offered assistance, and she said thanks, but no, my hubby's calling a tow. I explained how I rebuilt my 650 from a frame up, and she said ok.

Well it turned out he just forgot to turn on the fuel at the petcock.
I told her to tell her hubby she found the prob, and took off.

I bet she checks that next time they get only 4 blocks from their house next time the bike dies.

It still suprises me how many people forget to check that, or their kill switch.

My 16 year old neice has taken a BIG interest in vintage Hondas after seeing my old bikes. With her parents approval, I've been teaching her to ride on the street (she's very experianced on dirt bikes and ATV's) We go riding whenever time will allow, her on my 350f and me on the 550. My Brother and I are going to do an old Honda for her next winter. We've been having a ball, and connecting like we never had before. It's been wonderfull. Great thread BTW.

Great thread!

Well, last night my wife and I did a 5K run for the Milwaukee (Wisconsin) Art Museum, called the "Grape Stomp."  We're not artsy types, we've just been working steadily at getting into better shape together and doing a 5K along the shore of Lake Michigan on a beautiful evening sounded like a good idea to us.  Anyhow, both my wife and myself had personal best times last night.

Wel it took me while to get some good news myself, but this one should make up for it big time.

1. I'm going to have a daughter in februari!
2. My boss gave me another new car, the old one was too small for all the baby stuff...
3. I got a 25% salary raise, and a promotion. This means my wife won't have to work full time starting next year.

Thats all very good news, congratulations!

This thread needs to be revived, we can all benefit from hearing a little good news.

It would be interesting to hear more from the original posters from 2007 about the same topics.
