New CB550 owner in New Jersey....
« on: September 24, 2007, 08:11:52 PM »
Hello everyone. A friend of mine recently purchased a beautifully Cafe'd CL350, and man was  that thing contagious!! I immediately set out to find a potential project bike, and found it inside 2 weeks: a garaged '76 CB550 in good shape. I'll be tearing it down almost all the way and cafe-ing it. Possibly full motor rebuild; we'll see.

I went through a crotch-rocket phase about ten years ago, and then hung up riding for a while. I love these old bikes and I'm stoked that I'll be riding again (by the spring, hopefully).

I've been lurking around the site here for a few weeks already, and it's awesome. I'm glad to be a part of it. I'll be posting pictures of the project along the way, too.

There are more than a few SOHC4's on the roads around central NJ.
My 750F is one of them.
1975 with original Sunrise Orange paint.

Yeah, there is one that I always see on campus at Rutgers (don't know if its you, I think the one I see all the time is a '74).

No, not mine ..... as mentioned above mine is a '75F (that is with 4-1 original exhaust collector) and I rarely travel through Rutgers even though I am very close. You could see it mostly anywhere in Somerset or Hunterdon counties, frequently in Somerville on Friday nights.
I do not know the owner of the '74 that you mention.
I also try not to leave it parked for long in bright sunlight attempting to preserve the original paint for as long as possible. The orange paint does fade.
