To look cool?  No, cool is more than that.  To be different?  No, we're all different anyway.  Chicks dig it?  No, I was doing fine in that department before I got a bike.

I know.  Because it's fun.

I went for my first group ride this evening.  20 or so of us.  I had the oldest bike. ;D  I had no problem keeping up though.  Only encountered a couple arseholes in the hour long ride.

There was a GB500 in the crowd.  That's a pretty good looking bike.

I got my first 4 cylinder bike in 1984 and it was a K3 750. I rode that bike for 15 years and had many adventures on it. I moved up to a V65 and then a Goldwing but I still have the 750. I still remember the first ride every spring on that bike. That first wide open blast through the gears meant winter was over and the promise of summer fun was around the corner. Now I resurrect  SOHC4's for customers and for my own collection. For me it's nostalgia. Bikes had character then, and being a biker meant something then. We are just passing through history but these bikes ARE history. Maybe by preserving these we can  hold on to the values of the past and by riding them we can be reminded of what life was like before society became so decadent.
There are old bikers and there are bold bikers but there are very few old, bold bikers.

Not doing what you can to make your bike ride-able during the best riding months of the year kind of defeats the purpose of owning it in the first place.

That is a very good point about these bikes being history...If it wasnt for bikes like the CB existing i have my doubts modern bikes would be anything like they are now...they could have turned out way different.

Ive been a dirt biker all my life since about 14. I switched over to street when gas started climming. I've been riding pretty much every day, there isn't any chance of black ice. 3 1/2 years now or so maybe 4.  I probable have a good 50,000 mile under my belt.
I have just liked the older CB's and the junk yard I got to for my Jeep part had a 78550K. He was asking 250.00 I asked did it run. He kinda chuckled and said it turned over. I said well that only worth 150 or 200 with a chuckle. I have known him for years. He said he needed to get 250.00 so I splurged. :) I called him up an hour later and told him I had it running. I rode it all the time for about a year till the oil got to bad off the head.

Mostly though why I ride is we have places like this all over.

Also check out the fall colorado ride in the open forum.

I ride for the exact same reasons I rode a bicycle from fort collins colorado to laramie wyoming repeatedly every year when in Ft. Collins.

The freedom.

All the back roads I would take made the normally 60 mile trip into a frequently 150-200 mile ride.
The views, people i met, the experiences that cannot be matched by any game, drug, or woman are the reason.

Riding on gas or pedal power... it's fredom.

It's hard to quite match the high from riding for 12 hours or more, but on a motorcycle you can get to those little known areas a h*ll of a lot faster!
