I do not collect old outboard motors. I do offer refuge to an occasional orphaned motor.

L to R: 1937 Bendix Eclipse, 1947 Mercury 'Rocket', 1956 Clinton 'Chief', 1939 Champion 'Standard Single'. Three yard sales - four motors came home. $95 for the lot. The Bendix has carb issues, makes a pretty ornament anyway. The Merc and the Clinton run but need water pump impellers. The Champion needs a jug of really thick gas mix and a little old boat.

Hey Jonesy - what's that Fat Four hiding in the corner?

Hey Jonesy - what's that Fat Four hiding in the corner?

It's a 1964 Evinrude SportFour 60HP. The family used to use it for water skiing out at the cottage.

The Clinton Chief is air-cooled. No pump impeller is used.

The Clinton Chief is air-cooled. No pump impeller is used.

haha.. somebody shoulda told the folks at Clinton about that. It does have a pump and a tube that squirts water into the exhaust right below the powerhead. not for cooling the engine but for cooling the exhaust. It runs ok without the pump but the grease on the swivel clamp starts to stink after awhile.

looks like this one:

Happy trails.

edit:
Here's a better look at the Bendix..... because it needs to show off occasionally.

ah, the wonders of modern technology......

and a snap of the Fat Four in the corner.

so I can show off my big Johnson. It's a '65 90 horse.. Lots of weird parts that they only used for a couple of years. Not quite sure which will be the bigger project.... all new wood in the '58 Dorsett? or reviving the rebuilt-then-stored-since-1975 Johnson?

Wow.. OK, I stand corrected. I had an old Chief and it didn't use that feature... That must have been added... Huh! :P

I used to be a pretty serious collector of antique photographs, especially unusual and rare processes and image types. My pride and joy was a turn of the century tintype of a Klansman in full reagalia from Coloma, MI, which was a hotbed of Klan activity at the time. In about 1982, I paid 80.00 for it. Now I can only imagine what it's worth! I loaned it to another photographer, and never saw it again!
