550 tire size
« on: October 07, 2007, 06:48:06 AM »
I appologize in advance for another tire thread, but I haven't found a definitive answer searching. Looking for new tires for my '77 550k. A 120/90-18 seems to be the right size for the rear, but which is the best size for the front, a 100 or 110/90-19? TIA

The stock rims are 1.85 inches wide.  What manufacturer told you a 120 size tire fits on this rim?

A 3.25 front and a 4.00 rear will give you all the traction you need to scrape pegs and other bits o bike.  And, your bike will retain the sweet handling it is known for throughout the life of the tires.

First of all Cool lookin bike.I dig the seat.I too have a cb550 it is a 75.I too am lookin to put new rubber on there. I did a search on here last night and its seems as though 1/2 stick and swear by stock and the other 1/2 upgrade one size up.I was in the bike shop this week and they said to stay with the manufacture size.I seen a guy on ebay selling his cb550 with a 130/90/18 on it.I emailed him asking of any clearance issues and he said it rode fine and it cleared everything fine.He did though have a bobber stlye frame.I too wanted a 130 on there and the dealer laughed.NOT A GOOD SIGN.
Oh well everyone is entitled to an opinion.I was lookin through some past threads and seen a guy was in the shop and seen three tires mounted to spoke rims a 120/90 and a 120/80 both 18s and the 90 looked huge.I did not know there was that much of a difference between sizes.I am working on a budget [TIMES ARE TIGHT HERE IN MICHIGAN] of 1000.00 bucks bike included.I do know alot rides on your tires so I will probably go with CHENG SHINS HI MAX a 100/90/19 and a 120/90/18
