Success at last!  The engine came alive tonight after many months of work.  I ran the engine for a few minutes to get the oil circulating and check for potential problems.  It took a while to get the oil light to go out, but once it did, I was relieved. However, I do have an oil leak from one of the bottom end studs (see pics below) so I have to tackle that problem.  I called Mike, the engine builder, and he suggested that I take the nut off and seal the rubber washer with some Honda HT gasket sealer.  Any other suggestions are welcome.

The engine got pretty warm, but my oil cooler stayed cool.  I was worried that it wasn’t flowing through the cooler so I unhooked the oil lines and looked for oil, it dripped out, so I assume oil was circulating through the lines.  The engine took almost 6 quarts of oil, I was a bit surprised, but the oil filter is large and with the cooler and extra lines, they could easily take a quart alone.  I looked in the oil tank and saw a purpleish oil, so the assembly lube has begun to come off.

The bike is idling a bit high at the moment, around 2000 RPM.  I need to adjust the idle screw, but it is difficult to reach.  The CR carbs worked flawlessly.  My exhaust note is LOUD even at idle.  The comp baffle sounds great.  Earplugs will be required.

 Awesome, Sparty. Don't let that little dribble stop ya from taking a spin around the block ;)

   I forgot that you had those wicked crank studs installed. I'm not familiar with them but Mike's advice sounds right to me. I don't believe you have anything to worry about if you want to liberally apply sealant to that area. Hopefully Mike remembers what he torqued the bolts to and you have a good torque wrench handy.

  6 quarts is a lot of oil, even with a cooler. I've got a small Deraile cooler and it takes about 1/4 quart more oil than the 3.7 spec'd for my bike. After it's run for a bit you may want to recheck the level. My level sank low and then rose back up when I started for the first time. It may be that your bike takes 6 quarts with all the stuff you've added, but if your crank is submerged in oil it may be contributing to the leak.

  The Motion Pro remote fuel tank is a cheap addition to the garage  if you don't already have one, or similar. Makes synching the carbs, tuning, and getting that idle set a breeze.

  Glad to hear the day has finally come and that only the usual, minor stuff is in your report ;D

You could also use some plumbers ptfe tape on the threads in case its coming down there

Art - be very careful filling it. I know someone that was burnt badly when his oil tank over-flowed as the oil was pumped up and heat. It's a dry sump of course and the tank will rise as the engine is run.

I turned my handle switch to "off" and turned my engine over in short burst until I had oil pressure before starting. Just me, but I did not want a dry start (I offered you a gauge). Those case studes should be around 20 lbs. The stock ones went to 14 - those should go to 18-20 easy.

I've got the same 1.5 baffle and mine is all music...no worse than most slip-ons added to the sportbikes. You're going to enjoy the sound of 10,000! Sweet.

Gordon....yes, those studs 20 to 22lbs. I heard the engine over the phone at idle and  couple of soft revs. That thing will rock. I know...I built it and I stand behind it.

Leino, I remember it happening to the owner of Santa Pod in the early days. He brought E J Potter ( the Michigan madman) over with his V8 bike. The guy had just had the strip resurfaced and when EJ rolled it off the line he got covered in rubber.
He thought it was his new surface breaking up ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Guys,

After a cleaning with BrakeClean I sealed the leak with some Hondabond HT around the upper part of the stud and washer.  Then I coated the threads and inside of the nut with PTFE.  I TQ'ed the nut to 21 lbs. in between the 20 to 22 range.  At the moment there is no oil leak.  I didn't start the bike today, I want it to cure for 24 hours.  The PTFE never dries "hard".  I put a light coat of PTFE around the base of the nut and washer for extra measure.  Over the winter, I'll pull the exhaust and do that to all of the studs.  I checked the oil. 4.7 quarts were filled.  It calls for 4.2, but with the cooler, large filter and lines, plus some spillage, the 4.7 seems about right.

You guys need to get yourself a Dyna 2000 ignition.  Timing it is a breeze!

I have video, but I couldn't get it to post on YouTube.  Not sure why.  I'll try again this weekend.

Oh, I forgot... when the bike was running I could hear the cam chain, I am not 100% sure how loud it should be with the new build.  It wasn't a rattle, more like a spinning chatter at idle.  I goosed the throttle a bit, just to 3000 or so RPM, the revs come up quick with the lightened and balanced crank, Falicon rods, balanced rotor and Megacycle 125-75 cam.

I'll be waking up the neighborhood on Saturday morning to the sweet sound of the Kerker ;D

Sounds good Art, but the only concern I have is the oil just "dripping" out of the cooler lines, the pressure should be pretty high there mate as all the adapter does is redirect the oil flow, so if it's not warming up your cooler at stand-still, just check to make sure you haven't kinked your lines, and that your oil pump is working as it should. If you've got an oil pressure problem it'll destroy all that beautiful work on your first run! Cheers, Terry. :)

Mine starts at 60~70 and when the oil thins - it hangs around 50~60. The starter will generate 30 lbs, so it comes up quick.

You are scaring me Terry.   The oil was dripping out when the bike was off.  The lines are not kinked.  Now I am worried.  Damn.
