« on: October 05, 2007, 06:02:29 AM »
I am a novice as far as motorcyle engines go...I have turned wrenches on my car...I dont want to get in over my head any tips on cleaning carbs....and would changing the points and plugs be real hard for me.

A good parts diagram is a help, and/or take pics along the way. Get a hold of four bins of some sort and keep the parts for each carb together. Lots of posts on the actual cleaning and what to use (everyone has their favorite) do a search on that. If I can do carbs, trust me, anyone can. Plugs and points are well within your skills. Good luck.

I couldn't agree more with the pictures.  I started taking apart my bike and took some pictures but then when i got really into that carbs I never took pictures.  Of course if I had I wouldn't have spent a day or so trying to figure out how to get my choke assembly back together (it turned out I put a part on backwards).

Also to clean the carbs I suggest stripping them down completely and submerging pretty much everything in concentrated simple green (I find it at my local hardware store or walmart).  Once I took them out of the simple green I sprayed them down with carb and choke cleaner.  Then (this is important) dray everything up and BLOW AIR THROUGH EVERY TINY LITTLE HOLE to make sure no little bits dry up and stop flow.

Good Wrenching....
