'69 CL350 Tire size and Type Help Needed
« on: October 04, 2007, 07:13:00 AM »
Hi All:

...A double post from DoTheTon; Bad form, I know...

So the SWMBO released some funds for new tires. The ones I have now are at least 20 years old and I do not feel comfortable riding at speeds. Plus, I think that have some hard spots from sitting in a warehouse all those years, which manifests as strong vibration at speeds.

The bike is a 69 CL350 running stock wheels. I’m looking for some sticky tires that will fit these rims. First, what diameter and width are these stock wheels? Second, what size/type to you all suggest. From what I’ve read, I need 90’s in the front and 100’s in the read, but again, in what diameter? I probably won’t be hanging the knee out too much, but would like tires that support such hooligan antics—should I be so inclined.

Finally, is changing the tire something I can do? Should I buy a new tube at the same time? Any help is appreciated…

--Thanks, Chris

Well, I'm not sure what the tire size is on the CL350 but you could definately change it yourself. Chances are the tube is in poor shape as well and you should replace it if you change the tire. If its your first change you will probably poke the tube anyway with the pry bar like I did. :D

I'll check some of my old books to see if I can find the tire sizes for you,
 Matt.

Original tire size is 3.50x18, but you can use 4.10x18, 3.75x18 and in some cases the 4.25x18 will also fit. A 4.00x18 physically fits but poorly and there maybe issues with the chain guard and also its a taller tire
