Bad Week
« on: July 23, 2005, 06:16:16 AM »
Boy what a week

They say things come in threes, well her's mine.

Tuesday, caught in a heavy downpore, soaked to the skin. :'(
Wednesday, cut the valve stem off my back tube 45min drive from home :o
Thursday, number 1 or 4 is realy smoking, I suspect 4 because of the leaking head gasket and oil fouled plug. :-[

So instead of rebuilding the top end this winter, I am force to do it as soon as the parts are in. ???

I have the manual, is there any querks I should look for on this old 74 CB550.

Thanks

James

Try some ATF in your warm cylinders, leave overnight, drive next day - often the smoking is due to sticking rings and the ATF treatment loosens them again.

What's ATF?

I don't think it's a stuck ring,  I have put about 600 miles on the bike and it is only starting to smoke now, plus the head gasket is realy throughing the oil out.

Thanks

Plan on giving a good cleaning while apart.  Just didn't realy want to go any deeper then the top end.  But if I must, I must.

I'll keep the group posted and will post photo's of my progress.
