Genuine factory race kit seat shame about the tank
Sam.
Explain what you have going on there Bill. Scooter tank? Race seat? Gauges? I bet if the track was long enough you could have taken him.
Well guys, it's like this. I bought that 66' CB72 in 68' in Japan. I was stationed at Misawa AFB. I replaced the gauges, headlight and related parts with CB350 parts (the 350s had just come out) I picked up on a deal on the seat, the gas tank is a Allstate Moped item (back then, a lot of folks back in Arkansas used them because of the size, the simple installation on one bolt in the middle of the tank and it wasn't a bad looking tank. It did give kind of a odd look with that seat. I only had that tank on there for racing. I left the sea on there because of the way it "kicked up" at the rear. The motor was opened up a little with some porting, I added a CP77 head w/ cam and carbs. The fellow who did the head work told me to set the cam forward one tooth and set the ignition normally. I was also running open reverse cone megaphones. Those megaphones on the CL77 were because I put a set on my CB72 and he liked them so he put some on his. I don't know what might have been done to his motor but I usually take 305s. The 450s were another story though. Then there was this Suzuki X-6 Hustler.
That sucker kept blowing my wheels off. Everytime he beat me, I'd go back and try something else on my bike and each time I'd get a little bit better. Decided to build a secret weapon. I found a Kawasaki 350 Avenger that had been wrecked (frame was shot) and then I found a Yamaha 250 scrambler with no motor (250cc twin with scrambler pipes) and was working with the Honda dealer (He wanted that X-6 beaten also
) to put the two together to kick that X-6's BUTT! Then, of all things, I got my orders to return to the U.S. Sure wish I could have afforded to have brought those bikes home.
Wish I had more pictures but that's it on the Hawk. I'll try to do better with the Super Hawk that I'm preparing to build.
Later on, Bill
