Well, I joined this forum a couple weeks ago looking for help on carb re-building and was answered here by many knowledgeable folks. Only after that post did I see this area, so here's my intro: I have only ridden a couple times and have never owned a bike until recently.
I had spied an old motorcycle hanging around my father-in-law's shop down in Iowa (I'm in St. Paul, MN) and finally convinced him to let me drag it out of the corner where it had been collecting quite a bit of dust. Turned out to be a 1978 cb750k, little less than 6,000 on the odometer, sitting for 25 years in the spot he last parked it. It still has plates from '82 on it. He bought it new and can't quite remember why he quit riding it.
After a quick once over with the pressure washer, we found quickly that it wasn't going to turn over and I started digging into the details. I did some web research and talked to friends from work, got a manual and started with points, plug caps and plugs. After making sure I had a spark, I moved onto to the carbs. I thought I did a pretty good job getting them cleaned up and had a friend help me put them back together. Got them back on the bike last weekend and got it started, but wouldn't stay running. That's when I joined up here. Found out I still had some cleaning to do..
Anyway, I really love this site and thought I would share a couple pics of the bike in question. I have been very excited ever since I started working on the bike (something I've always wanted to do..) and can't wait to make the drive down to Iowa on the weekends. My father-in-law has already begun to refer to it as my bike and has been great as my "Consultant" (as long as I do all the work, he's happy!)
I'm sure I will have a ton more questions in the months to come...!
