:D  I think S-Dog is off on his ride around New Hampshire and up Mt. Washington.  Low gas mileage or not.

I hope he gets good weather.  It's a stunningly beautiful day here in Maine.

Which way would you want to move the needles if you were running rich, Up or down?  My guess is down...

I am leaving early this afternoon.... I guess the question would now be .  Will I hurt anything running rich for the trip?  I am bringing an extra set of plugs in case I foul the one that are in the bike.  I will check needle position when I get back.. I am afrain to rip into the bike right before I leave without supervision. :D

Ya can't really hurt anything running rich. Just foul plugs. You didn't answer the filter question. New? Sprayed? What brand? Blockage? etc.
No.

Also, what gearing are you running. If you are always riding it like you stole it, mileage would be down.

newish filter...no blockage no spray... it looks like a fram

I ride mildly aggressive.... but the same as I did when I was getting 38mpg

stock gearing....

pretty much everything is the same except I fixed my carbs from the half ass job the mechanic did

no gas leaks either....the smell of gas is from the pipes..

I still get 40ish MPG even keeping the bike at 7k-9k rpm range for extended periods of time.

Dog, I go back to you comment about the meahcanic. I was cleaning out carbs with Guitar strings. I grabbed the wrong one and punched out the slows to a point gas vapor was coming out the pipes. There is a tool called a carb file for cleaning, maybe he just enlarged things.

Have a great trip, Dog!
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

the trip was AWESOME!!! http://www.sohc4.us/forums/index.php?topic=27047.0

I played with the air screw... went out a full turn on them.  and got about 33-35 mpg.  It ran really well... thanks for the help.

I will pull the carbs when the weather is a little colder and check the needles and the jets...
