Newbie Alert!!!!
« on: October 22, 2006, 07:14:11 PM »
;D Hello all ya Wingnuts!
I'm a Wingnut too!

I have been unsuccessful at registering for weeks and am sooo excited to be posting now.
This forum could really eat up alot of my time........
I have to get some sleep soon, so I'll be brief.

I've got a CB400F of 1975 vintage:
The bike was purchased summer of 2006 with no title, from an eBay auction. I have always wanted one of these bikes. I can remember first site of one many years ago. I don't spend much money on bikes and I had been waiting for a steal of a deal and I got this one at a pretty good price because of its not having a title and it needed a little work. I got very lucky and got the out of state title easily, and I've been riding with a big grin ever since.

..a 1973 CB350G twin
I've had this one for about 7 years. This is my first cycle since the limited experience of my youth. I purchased it for $150. Stripped the frame, and spraybombed it semi-gloss black. I replaced many parts and made it respectable. It has blown a piston, for the second time, just recently and Its being rebuilt again.

... a 1966 CB77 Superhawk
This bike has all new paint with a powder coated frame. It has low miles and looks super cool. But its only 95% complete and I never find the time to finish it.

I recently sold a 1976 CB200t. That was a fun bike! The thing did 85mph and handled great!

I also sold a 1986 Yamaha XT600. I just couldn't keep a non Honda.

I am a Rocker though the mods are alright with me. I'm in a couple bands and am in the studio now, recording some songs. One of which is Wingnut. Perhaps I can post it when its done.
I love the site. You guys have a lot of fun here.

Let's be friends.

Welcome.  With a resume like that, you definitely qualify as a wingnut.

Are the blown pistons due to a design defect, or a defect in the nut behind the handlebars? ;)

I run the bike hard but I'm not abusive at all, although the first incident I was really pushing it. It was the peak of summer and I was riding two up at 70mph trying to keep pace with a Duc 900SS. The bike started to slow and I just kept flogging it until destruction. I felt bad for it.

The Second time it blew I was trying to keep up with a Daytona 675, but I really wasn't riding all that hard in very hot conditions. I was really suprised it blew. I really didn't push it that hard. There is a problem here and I'll save it for another thread.

OK I have an 82 750 4 Kaw and an 86 700 Yamaha Virago and just got this 75 honda CB200T for wifey to learn how to ride. She plans to ride the Virago. Any way I got the little honda running but need to clean the carbs and reset the floats. I want to gap the points and plugs but I need the specs and procedures. I had a yamaha 175 two stroke years ago that did quite well in town traffic but this little 200 cant pull my 190 lb but up the driveway. Any help here would be appreciated.

You'll have better luck posting your question in the "Other Bikes" part of this forum found here:  http://www.sohc4.us/forums/index.php?board=10.0

Start a new topic.  Describe your problem and post the year and model of the bike in that post.  Most people that read that also use another board that is just for the Honda twin cycles.  I can't recall the name of that board though.

It sounds like you have your plan: clean carbs, set points, timing etc.  Basically a good tuneup.  Here's a link to download the CB200 manual:  http://www.mediafire.com/?c0grjzum5wm

There are other manuals available online as well.

So you have your plan and and a manual.  Get to it.

If you're unfamiliar with motorcycles, spend an hour a day reading and searching old posts here for the next couple of weeks and if you're sharp, you'll have a good handle on these things.
