Hello from Tulsa
« on: October 11, 2007, 07:04:06 PM »
Hi, My name is Juan, and ive recently acquired a 1972 CB500 Four. Used to be Garnet Brown and black. Got it for only $500. The bike runs fine. The bike is pretty rust free. There is some minor rust inside the tank which will be taken care of quickly. Here are some pics.

Its probably a 5 out of 10 appearance wise. It sat in a barn for 10 years gathering dust, dirt and spiders. The guy I bought it from got it for $300, and got it running (The guy has been a Honda tech for over 25 years), but lost interest. I bought it from him for $500 with a clear title. It was running the day I started to wrench on it. I work as a salesman at a local Honda bike shop here in Tulsa, so unlike most of you, I have an entire service department to give me a hand when I get stuck, and an unbelievable selection of tools to use.  ;D

Plans are to strip it down, clean it up, give it a candy red paint job, and possibly powdercoat the wheels and hubs black, and polish the spokes. Im thinking a resto/rod with alot of cafe bike inspiration. But really, Im just going to build what I think this thing shouldve been when it was new, using as much current technology as possible without altering the look of the bike too much.

Ive already got tapered bearings ready to go in, along with a 4 into 1 exhaust. As for the handlebar, im not sure what to do. I was wondering if there was a kit, or maybe different controls I could use to route the wires outside of the handle bars, to see if I could put either clubman bars on it, or maybe dirt bike bars?

I wish!  ;D

The bike is actually sleeping in the bike shop I work at. Im wrenching on it there. Those are all customer bikes. If you take a close look you can see the black bike (Honda Sabre) has been down and the tank is all scuffed up.

Welcome
I`ve got 2 500`s myself, you sure don`t see many around anymore.

You can take a dremel and notch out the original controls to run the wires on the outside

So what kind of a discount are we talking about for OE parts?  ::)  ;D
