Questions on Swapping Engines & Frames
« on: October 12, 2007, 12:19:38 PM »
Does anyone here have any experince with putting different year engines in older frames?

I ask this question because I may have an opportunity to buy (very cheap) a built to the nuts engine (836 Big Bore), and I would like to fit it in my 73' Frame. The guy told me that he thought it was from the early 80's (he did not know but guessed anyway)but he is going to get me the Engine Number so I can look up the case.

Is there anywhere I could look up what fits where?

If its a SOHC 750 engine then it will fit your 73 frame.  Honda changed to a DOHC design in 79 so if the seller is correct about it being an 80s engine then it will not fit your frame without major modifications.  I don't think that 836cc was a common big bore size for the DOHC 750s but it is for the SOHCs so perhaps this motor is from a 70s honda?  The appearances of these two types of motors are very different so all it should take is a pic or a look at the engine
